This outstanding photo immediately caught my eye because of the background colors. The bird in the fence is cool, especially because there’s detail in the bird, but wow - the background.
At first I thought it was a sunset, but now it looks more like a building or something, given the uniformity of the pink lines. But what building has a pink roof and bright orange… hedges? I just really don’t know…
Great collection of photos from Scott Kelby’s photo walk 2011. I didn’t participate this year, but only because I was too late to sign up for anything close to me. I really like the concept - it’s groups of photographers that meet up and walk around for a few hours, taking photos of whatever they come across. As you can see, you get a huge variety and some truly excellent results.
Scott’s ‘award titles’ are pretty great, too.
I never thought I’d enjoy looking at images like these so much! The fact that they’re all labor-intensive composites is pretty damn impressive, but the results are just stunning.
I especially like the one of the snow-covered house with the star trails.

This guy takes amazing macro photos and this is actually pretty normal for him. The soft gradient background is what really does it for me.

Hi Tumblr! I haven’t made an update in a really long time, but rest assured I am still looking at cool photos. This one’s a bit nerdy because I’m 99% sure that Mr. Freidburg used a Mac Pro as his background , shining light from the outside in. The image is simply flawless, though, I’m curious how he got the spoon to balance on the fork - maybe it was just careful work. I’m also assuming he used gloves since fingerprints would be a huge issue with such a shiny subject.
I also wonder, did he just happen to find a fork with tines that lined up with the Mac Pro’s holes? Or did he have to shop around, knowing what the final photo was supposed to be?

Photo by Nitin Kansal - nkclicks.smugmug.com 27 Jun 2011 - Beautifull sunset in seattle. This is a stunning nighttime cityscape. The vantage point is just perfect - the highway leads your eye across the photo as it disappears into the buildings in a pleasing S curve. The saturated yellow light against the blue dusk sky is really nice too, although based on the image file name (xxxxx_tonemapped) I’m thinking it might be artificial. Regardless, this is stunning, and I want to visit Jose Rizal Park now.

I am, however, very impressed at the astounding variety of animals, and the fact that the photographer has labeled each and every one of them! I’ll definitely be using this gallery as a reference when I get back from my own Africa trip in a few weeks.
I didn’t know I’d enjoy looking at this series so much. I know it’s different photographers at work, but wow - what a variety of images! I suppose Alan Taylor gets the nods for that.
The first one could be from a dream. There are some super-cringe-worthy shots of a barbed-wire fence encounter and several great crowd shots. I love the blend of art and journalism with great photo series like this.
I’m looking forward to part 2.

This one really caught my eye because of the soft colors and the great detail on the ants. I usually don’t like the textured effect, but I think it looks great here! The way the red ants match the reddish color on the bud is really cool, and how that contrasts with the greens/yellows of the rest of the bud and the leaves.
Plus, the ants are kissing! Or fighting. Or just eating from the same plate…
